Review Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray]

Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] Best Review

Finally, the greatest science fiction film ever made, the way it was meant to be seen. Ridley Scott & Co. have gone to great lengths to craft an all-new cut of the film, consistent with Scott's true vision for Blade Runner. This new "Final Cut" truly is the definitive version of Blade Runner, and after years of half-hearted acceptance of a so-called "Director's Cut" made in the director's absence, fans can sit back and enjoy the film that we SHOULD have gotten a quarter century sooner. Of course, with so much time now past, Scott and his team make use of the new technologies at hand, but never undercut the original FX. Indeed, the original Visual Effects supervisors were brought in to shepherd and approve the new digital FX, with complete respect for their original work in 1982. Also of note is the improved color timing of the Final Cut, which serves to enhance the neo-noir style and atmosphere of the film.

Of course, for those who may not share my feelings of complete satisfaction regarding the Final Cut, this set also includes the U.S. and International Theatrical Cuts, the 1992 Director's Cut, and the fabled Workprint from the Denver and Dallas screenings. While the Director's Cut was one of the very first DVDs on the open market back in 1997, this is the first time the theatrical cuts have been made available since the Criterion laserdisc of the International Cut, and the first chance for fans to own the Workprint. And though the Workprint is as rough as may be expected, all cuts of the film benefit greatly from the 1080p presentation of Blu-Ray. The look of Blade Runner on BD is highly cinematic and certainly reference quality. A fine layer of film grain is present throughout, colors are rich and vibrant, and the detail is astonishing.

If you're not sold yet, there's also a three and a half hour documentary on the making of the film. And even with its incredible runtime, not a single moment of Dangerous Days is filler. It's easily the most comprehensive documentary I've ever seen on any film, covering every conceivable topic, from conception to legacy, from every conceivable angle, with a host of interviews. And if that's not enough, there's a fifth disc with even MORE extras, including a feature on the history of the alternate cuts and the restoration and creation of the Final Cut. In short, the extras are every bit as definitive as the rest of the package. You get every cut of the film in HD, and hours upon hours of extras (in standard definition), all for an extremely reasonable price.

If you're even remotely a fan of Blade Runner, you owe it to yourself to own this set, and to see the film in such amazing detail. I owned the DVD set prior to this, and the quality there was as strong as standard definition would allow. The Blu-Ray set absolutely trounces it in every way. The PQ and AQ are a revelation, and any fan should be overjoyed with this brilliant set.

The Definitive Collectors Edition - C. Adams - United States
Great movie. All 5 discs are not blu-ray though. The making of documentary and extras disk are standard dvds. However, the Final Cut disk, Theatrical Versions (both international and american), and work-print version are all remastered on blu-ray. For fans of the movie this is a no brainer to get.

Excellent, quality versions of Blade Runner - Jack Estes - Austin, TX
I had been waiting for the Blu-Ray versions of Blade Runner. Lots of commentary and well worth the price of entry. I particularly like that this compilation has the original screenplay version with Harrison Ford's voiceover. I'm one of the few, apparently, who thinks that is the best version. When I watch one of the other versions, I always miss Harrison Ford's voice guiding me along. I also like it's happy ending. In this set there is a European voiceover version that has longer action sequences. That's the best version of all, IMHO.

    Review Waking Ned Devine

    Waking Ned Devine Best Review

Long-time Irish lottery player Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannen) discovers that someone in his tiny village has won a huge jackpot. When the lucky winner dies, Jackie and his old pal Michael (David Kelly) come up with a plan to cash in anyway.

This simple tale of likeable folk who conspire to commit grand larceny is a real feel-good comedy. Bannen and Kelly are irresistible and had me under their spell from the beginning. The charm of the story comes from the close friendship among the villagers and the idyllic setting (filmed on the Isle of Man). If you were captivated by the folksy charm of movies like The Quiet Man, you'll love this movie, too.

    Waking Ned Devine Overview

When Ned Devine dies from shock after winning the lottery, two longtime friends, Micheal and Jackie, discover the body and agree Ned would want them to benefit from his good luck. They embark upon an outrageous scheme to claim the ticket but first they have to get all the townsfolk to go along with their plan!

    Waking Ned Devine Specifications

When local wag Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannen) discovers that one of his neighbors in the village of Tulaigh Mohr is a lottery winner he sees a chance to share in the wealth. Things get complicated when Jackie and his pal Michael O'Sullivan (David Kelly) discover that the winner, Ned Devine, died of shock at the very moment he learned of becoming a millionaire. Undaunted, Jackie and Michael dispose of the lucky stiff and hatch a plot to impersonate him and claim the prize. Soon the whole village is involved and the plot rapidly thickens.

This film has been compared to The Full Monty, but it lacks the vein of desperation that added depth to that film. Instead, Waking Ned Devine is closer in tone to classic British comedies like Whisky Galore!, with its cast of eccentrics gleefully conspiring to outwit the authorities. Those with a low tolerance for twinkly eyed Irish charm might be tempted to steer clear, although the movie is saved, for the most part, by its central performances. Bannen is superb as an old man who is clearly hungry for any excitement he can drum up and David Kelly is remarkable as his scrawny sidekick. Kelly has had a long career as a character actor in film and television, but here he has a chance to really let loose. His naked motorcycle ride is a marvelous set piece and in all of his other scenes his twitchy, perfectly timed performance quite simply steals the movie. --Simon Leake

A word to the wise - Susan Ellen Shanahan -
Before I purchased this DVD, I didn't know about "Region 2", namely that I couldn't play this DVD in whatever region the state of Connecticut is in. The DVD is totally useless to me and would love to know how either to return it or somehow get my money back. The bottom line is that I still haven't seen the movie and will have to repurchase it again. Just alittle word to the wise.........

Absolutely astounding - M. Sanderson - Northern California
Beautifully done, the characters breath with life. How refreshing to believe that there's really a place like Tullymore, where all of the villagers look out for each other (with one exception)and that the hand of God intervenes at the most opportune of times. I dare anyone to watch this and not have their spirits lifted!

Great movie - Richard Green -
Terrific family movie. As my daughters are 1/4 Irish and have been there several times, it was even more enjoyable for them.

Tickles Me - Robert R. Hults - DeLand, FL
This movie really does tickle my wife and me. Entertaining with no car chases, no special effects and a nifty story. We had a tape of this and needed to buy the DVD. I wish I was in Tullymore right now.

Top 5 Best Movies Adapted From Books in 2009

    Author: Ron Simpson

    Source: ezinearticles.com

I'm abiding you've heard the phrase, "the book is consistently bigger than the movie!" Well, in some cases that may be true, but some humans just wish to see a acceptable movie. I know, as a loyal clairvoyant and a accurate over-zealous fan of my admired authors, I tend to be too analytical of movies acclimatized from books. The affair is, movies are movies and books are books.

I can't brainstorm how difficult of a job it is to yield a adventure with words and about-face it into an absolute movie. A alarming assignment I'm abiding and one that will contentment some and abort many. However, abounding accomplished movies accept appear from books; some we apparently don't even apprehend were acclimatized from books. In 2009, there accept been (and will be) some abundant movies advancing out that were acclimatized from books. Here are a account of 5 that should accept you hitting the bookstores to compare:

    1. The Lovely Bones

    2. The Road

    3. Sherlock Holmes

    4. A Christmas Carol

    5. Where the Wild Things Are

This band up of abundant movies all chase abundant books. Of course, A Christmas Carol has been acclimatized before, but it's consistently abundant to see a new take. Such is the case with Sherlock Holmes and Robert Downey Jr. looks the allotment just accomplished as does Jude Law as Watson. The Road looks devastatingly affecting and has Oscar accounting all over it. Where the Wild Things Are looks angrily joyous.

If you accept to apprehend the books afore watching the movie, amuse remember, a cine is a cine and a book is a book. Judge them (or just adore them) accordingly.

Movie Review - Penny Serenade (1941)

    Author: Ugur Akinci

    Source: download

An accustomed (by today's standards) childrearing action in which Cary Admission delivers a achievement so acceptable that he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. George Stevens directed the Software by Morrie Ryskind.
The accomplished cine unfolds as a alternation of beeline flashbacks, anniversary triggered by the LP annal a disconsolate Julie (Irene Dunne) is arena on a gramophone just afore she leaves her abode for good. The reason? There does not assume to be annihilation larboard in her alliance to accumulate her there. We are anon to apprentice the acumen why and all the adverse contest that led her to that contemplative moment.
The aboriginal brace of times the revolving LP almanac dissolves into a "memory hole" through which we access a allotment of activity in Julie's past, we adore it as a appearance of a director's creativity. But the sixth or the seventh time that happens, we admiration how abounding times we accept to ache the aforementioned atrociously automated idea. It gets old appealing bound proving that bendability is not consistently a virtue.
Cary Admission plays the adolescent and adventurous bi-weekly anchorman Roger Adams who marries the adulation of his activity Julie (played by Irene Dunne) on the eve of his abandonment to Tokyo to yield over his newspaper's Japan bureau. It aswell happens to be the Christmas night, complete with the binding blast (as in accession Cary Admission movie, BISHOP'S WIFE (1948)).
Once accustomed in Tokyo, Roger has Julie accompany him at his new abundant address complete with a ancestors of Japanese abode servants. Julie is both captivated and afraid that Roger can sustain that akin of affluence with alone a reporter's salary. We bethink an beforehand arena in which her acquaintance Applejack (Edgar Buchanan) warned her adjoin accepting complex with a journalist. Is there something adumbral about Roger or accomplished that we would apperceive about yet?
Two absorbing things appear during the "Tokyo sequence" that accompany both Roger's appearance and the script's backbone into question.
In the aboriginal scene, Roger announces Julie that he has abdicate his job acknowledgment to his ancestors inheritance. Now they can go biking about the apple afore they achieve down and accession a family, although during their dating aeon Roger showed some abhorrence to ache pranks of accouchement (the bank scene) gladly.
It turns out what Roger calls "an inheritance" is just about ten thousand dollars, which shrinks added down to $8,000 afterwards he pays his outstanding bills. It is a let down for Julie. He accuses Roger by acting "childishly." We'll see this arrangement for the blow of the movie: Roger will consistently appear beyond as a man with admirable account and abundant aplomb who, however, can't buck the bacon at the end.
The additional important development in the "Tokyo sequence" is the convulsion that levels their home. As we abide to watch to see the "payoff" of this absolutely abrupt accustomed disaster, the blur abruptly accouterment aback to San Francisco area Julie is lying in a hospital and she learns that she will not be able to buck accouchement anymore. But why did they accept to go to Japan to access at that point is a arguable Software catechism that is larboard unanswered. Couldn't the aforementioned fate action Julie if she had accession blow afterpiece to home? Why did they accept to go all the way to Japan, is not clear. The accomplished "Tokyo episode" stands out like a antic afterwards a bite line.
The blow of this ball unfolds as the adventure of the affiliated couple's atrocious accomplishment to accept a child, and already adopted, not to lose her.
There is yet accession "baby sequence" in the average of the cine which could calmly be allotment of an different comedy. Admission afresh excels in this sequence, about paying accolade to the aboriginal years he spent during his adolescence as a assuming and acrobat with Bob Pender's troupe. We see the adolescent brace traveling through abounding of the anxieties in demography affliction of their adopted 5-week daughter. (Is she comatose or did she abdicate breathing?)
They are so inexperienced, they don't even apperceive how to authority a babyish or ablution her and change her diaper.
But we can't aswell advice apprehension the advance of a father-daughter bonding amid Admission and his baby babe admitting the actuality that originally he asked for a 2-year old boy "with albino coiled hair and dejected eyes."
For the aboriginal brace of years Roger's anew accustomed account bi-weekly business, helped by the columnist adept Applejack, seems to be authoritative the ends meet. But again his business takes a abrupt abatement and al of a sudden he is a man afterwards an income.
Since they are still at a "probationary period" in their acceptance process, the ever-vigilant acceptance bureau in the getting of Miss Oliver (Beulah Bondi) takes Roger to court. The adjudicator is declared to yield the babe aback because a ancestors afterwards assets is not a fit abode for any adolescent to abound up in.
However, Cary admission in yet accession accomplished scene, delivers this absolutely affecting address about the affliction of break from his daughter, and the applesauce of demography a adolescent aback as admitting she was a car or a appliance repossessed because the buyer has been backward in payments. His address as a crestfallen ancestor wins the day and the adjudicator allows him to yield her aback home.
After so abounding spinning gramophone annal abandoning into anamnesis scenes, we watch the adolescent abound and yield a baby allotment in a Christmas play at academy as her actual appreciative parents watch her and accord all their abutment admitting a accessory blow on the date that charcoal her day.
Then adversity strikes, as it should in a tragedy. We apprehend in a letter accounting to Miss Oliver that the adolescent has died afterward an illness. Back up to that point we accept not apparent a individual arena in which the adolescent suffered from any concrete ailments, this aswell comes beyond as apish a artifice point as the beforehand " Tokyo earthquake."
After the afterlife of their babe Roger and Julie's abutment starts to break quickly. The babe was the band that kept them together. Not that she is gone, all larboard abaft are the memories and the songs Julie plays one endure time on her gramophone - and we zoom aback to the present.
Just if we anticipate their alliance is gone out the window always (Roger is in fact accustomed her accoutrements to the car cat-and-mouse outside), they accept this amazing alarm from Miss Oliver who gives them the acceptable news: she has a 2 year old boy "with albino coiled hair and dejected eyes" and would they be absorbed in adopting him? What advantageous timing and what a acceptable artifice device!
Of advance they jump on the befalling and change their minds appropriate on the atom - they don't wish to be afar afterwards all. There is still achievement for the approaching and we leave them as they are discussing their account on how to redecorate the baby's allowance for their new boy.
A 7 out of 10 acknowledgment to an accomplished achievement by Cary Admission and admitting the anemic Software and the formula-driven directing.
MOVIE TRIVIA: Cary Admission was actual admiring to allotment the advance roles with Irene Dunne. He reportedly told Dunne that she was the "best smelling arch lady" he formed with in a film.
TRIVIA: Philip Barry wrote the date play originals of the two movies that advice ascertain the cine careers of Cary Admission and Katherine Hepburn who starred in both of them: HOLIDAY (1938) and PHILADELPHIA STORY (1941).

Realistic Movies - The Craft Of Creative Minds

In this 21st century, entertainment is the one and only means of providing relaxation to the mind from worries. The most modern version of mass medium for entertainment is cinema. The motion picture has grown with the innovation of technology. With the advent of motion picture entertainment has taken the form of an industry.

The history of filmmaking goes back to the year 1895 when Lumiere brothers of Paris started Projection of films for the Persian public. Earlier filmmakers in Europe and America concentrated more on producing commercial pictures. Up to 1910 to 1920, films in U.K and Hollywood were meant only for entertainment. But films like City light (1931), The Great Dictator and many more made by the great Charlie Chaplin, give a new definition to the world cinema.

We remember Chaplin a little man with a tight jacket and loose pants held up with a string; over size boots and undersized bowler hat. He was the only man who tried to portray the true picture of the underprivileged world. He tries to depict through comedy, a hard core of truth and painful experience of his life.

Changes were also seen in the European films. In the Soviet-Union films were made on First World War. Russian films on Lenin and Russian Revolution tried to bring out in front of his audience the political scenario as well as the social scenario of Russia. Efforts of few famous film makers of the first world country to make film with the hard core realities society and life, given birth to a new category of films, which latter popularized into realistic films for the audience.

In post war Europe, realism was in the air in its film cities, particularly in Italy and France. Writers, who were professed Leftists and made new kinds of films, departing from Hollywood tradition. To match the stories with reality, directors like De Sica, Lattuada and Castellani of Europe took their camera out in the streets and engaged non-actors to play leading roles. These films were shown in Indian cities also after their releases in Europe. These realistic films influenced many young aspirants. The realistic films began its journey in India from Bengal. The internationally acclaimed filmmaker Satyajit Roy was the pioneer of realistic filmmaking. In his first film: Pather Panchali (1955) he worked on the conflict and issues of post independent India in the background of his state of Bengal. There were also few other filmmakers like Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatok who were impressed by Italian, French and Japanese neo-realist films.

This trend of making off beat movies is also seen in other regional movies. The genre of realistic film has given birth to many ace filmmakers in the Indian film industry. Realistic films were made in almost all languages. Realistic film made mostly in Hindi and South Indian languages from time to time but it was Shyam Bengal's debut hindi film Ankur (1973), which started an offbeat wave. This genre of offbeat film was nourished by many big names of Indian film industry like Govind Nihalani, Basu Chatterjee, Ketan Mehta, Mahesh Bhatt, Kalpana Lajmi and Nabendu Ghosh. They pioneered a new path in filmmaking.

In the 21st century this trend of making realistic movies has been kept alive by filmmakers who believe that cinema was the art of the directors, not that of the artistes or technical experts. These offbeat films not only make us aware of the social economic condition prevailing in our society, but also show different aspects of life. The new Indian cinema having great social significance, presenting a modern, humanist point of view in contrast to the fantasy world of popular cinema. We hope that in future the Indian creative minds will keep alive this genre of realistic movies.

Review Sticky & Sweet Tour [Blu-ray]

Sticky & Sweet Tour [Blu-ray] Best Review

She's 50! 50 years old! SHe can kick...she can...ok ok enough with the SNL Molly Shannon reference.

But seriously, at 50 Madonna is still givin it to you, and Sticky & Sweet is no exception to her repretoire of outrageous, high energy performances.

After seeing the show here in California, it wasn't my favorite, although I'll never walk away from a Madonna show unsatisfied. However, after watching this DVD I completely felt the same energy if not more than when I was at the show. The production and cinematography of this show also made me like several songs more than when I first saw the show, like Spanish Lesson and La Isla Bonita/Lela Pala Tuta. The Argentinian crowd is absolutely amazing and we get see Madonna really let loose and get social with her audience, something she's been gradually getting better at since ReInvention Tour. She's absolutely bonkers in this show, impeccably delivering fantastic dance routines, and hooting and hollering hilariously throughout the show.

This DVD is a welcome change from the format of Confessions Tour which was a great DVD but it was so busy and difficult to actually see Madonna performing on the stage. Akerlund's production of CT was like a 2 hour music video which I though was overkill given that CT is quite possibly one of the best shows in her career. Sticky & Sweet gives much needed and deserved focus to Madonna while she's flying all over the stage.

    Personal Highlights:
    Candy Shop/Beat Goes On
    Vogue
    Into The Groove
    Heartbeat
    She's Not Me
    Music
    Get Stupid [Video Interlude]
Like A Prayer [awesome remix version]
    Give It 2 Me

I could have done without Human Nature, Borderline, 4 Minutes, and Hung Up. The 'Rain/Here Comes The Rain Again' Video Interlude was terrible in my opinion. I was shocked that she was ok with that being in the show because artistically it was very weak [the animation sequence was very generic and somewhat silly]

Overall I was pleasantly surprised because, like I said before, it wasn't my favorite show but after seeing the DVD I feel that I like it a lot more than I thought.

The last plus: The Audio selection from the tour is really nice to have, espcially since several of the songs are reworked, new versions. I'm also sure I would add the bonus behind the scenes footage as I have heard it's a great docu featurette. I have yet to watch the extras.

Worst Concert Ever - M Fan - USA
Being a Madonna fan for over 20 years, the enchantment is really wearing off. First came "Hard Candy", not only her worst album, but one of the worst albums EVER!!! I had went ahead and bought tickets to the show even though I know that her concerts usually consist promoting her latest album. Once I checked the tracklisting of the show and watched some snippets on youtube, I said "Nope!". I sold my tix (and made a 0 profit using stubhub, which she endorsed by the way).

I waited until the professionally shot concert was available to download and then watched it. I had to constantly shake my head in disappointment and fast forward through tracks.
#1 - OVERPRODUCED. I know she didn't lip-synch all of her songs, but this release makes it seem like she did (cause I've heard her really sing "Human Nature" live from youtube and...OH MY...IT IS AWFUL!)
#2 - Lame opening. After being WOWED from tour openings such as Confessions, Reinvention, and Blond Ambition, this was just really a let down and pretty boring.
#3 - Overcursing. Is the "F" word really necessary ALL OF THE TIME. I lost count. It sounds really forced and that she is trying to hard be too cool.
#4 - Oversexing. Okay. Yes. She is 51 and is in great shape and could put most of young competition to shame, but I don't need to see it, mostly because I already have from 1983-1994. She is basically naked through half of the show. She is trying too hard to prove she's not old by gyrating on the floor and making orgasmic sounds while saying "See my booty get down" and saying things like "My sugar is raw" [rolls eyes] Seriously Madonna?...Seriously?

The only redeeming tracks from this concert are the renditions of Borderline (even though she curses during it) and Like A Prayer. Some other tracks are bearable such as Into the Groove and You Must Love Me/DCFMA. I will credit her for giving a full 2 hour concert as well. They are usually 1 hour 30-40 min.

The behind the scenes documentary is actually really good and makes you want to actually see the concert, especially if you haven't seen it (I suggest watching this first). I found it to be less self-righteous than "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret" and wish that documentary was more like this release.

As far as this release goes. I think it is a worthwhile package for the FANS. If you are not a fan or just a casual fan, DO NOT BUY THIS! You will be extremely disappointed (The hits are all remixed and unrecognizable). I am a fan and am really disappointed, so that should tell you something.

I hope she has gotten this crap out of her system and is ready to go back to giving us something good.

One Hot Editing Mess - S. Formoso - Miami, Florida USA
Madonna's great. There's no one like her or will ever be like her. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that she had nothing to do with the editing of this hot mess of a DVD. I get it! You were trying to convey that this was an energized show, that it was high energy - high impact - blah blah blah. But cutting from one camera to the next ever 1.8 seconds makes this DVD look like it was edited by a high school's AV class. I can't possibly imagine that anyone with an ounce of experience edited this hot mess. Both the sound and the picture quality are abominable! But the poor editing takes the cake on this one. If it wasn't Madonna, you couldn't pay me to watch this editing mess.

    Awesome !!!! - E. Euscate - Lima, Peru
I read so many reviews before buying it, but no matter what I read, as a Madonna fan, I ordered this Blu-Ray. All I can say is that I am very pleased with it. Video Quality isn't 1080p, just 1080i, and it's not like Shakira Blu, but you will enjoy every song. Sound is perfect, with deep bass, songs are crisp and clear. I can't be more pleased with this purchase.

    Video: 4/5
    Audio: 5/5

And I don't care about the bonus audio CD found in the european version, this live show is perfect, but more in the visual style.

    Skateboarding History and Culture

    Quick History

Skateboarding definitely has its roots in surfing. Surfers wanted to see if they could do on land what they did in the water "surf on land". Skaters would simply stick a piece of board on wheels and start practising. In the 60's, the sport became popular when companies started making and selling skateboards - now everyone could try, not just the surfers who created their own skateboards. The "fad" of skateboarding wore off, but interest renewed once new tricks were created.

Fast forward to today and this is a serious sport. Tournaments and competitions pay out huge prize money; big name sponsors stuff pro skater's pockets with cash for wearing/promoting their products. Movies, video games and clothing have been created around the popular pastime. Skateboarding is more than a sport; it's a way of life, a true culture.

    Movies

Hundreds of movies and documentaries have been made about skateboarding. The most well known is probably Dogtown and Z-Boys. If you want to really immerse yourself in skateboard culture, we recommend that you add these movies to your Netflix queue - or do it the "old way" and go down to your local video store: Lords of Dogtown, Grind, Stoked, Tony Hawk's Trick Tip Series (for learning), The End, and for a few laughs: Jackass The Movie (Bam Margera), MVP 2 (Most Vertical Primate), and CKY2K.

If you don't feel like renting a movie, look no further than the internet for videos and clips of sk8 tricks, web documentaries, competition coverage and more.

    Video Games

Video and computer games are very popular. People who have never been on a skateboard in their life enjoy playing skateboarding games. The most popular game is the Tony Hawk series. To date, there are over ten games that bear the Tony Hawk name. Nearly every modern gaming system: Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, Sony PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC, Mac, Cell Phones - Tony is everywhere.

Tony isn't the only game in town though. Other video games like Skate, Backyard Skateboarding, Simpson's Skateboarding, Skatepark Tycoon, and ESPN X Games Skateboarding are popular too.

An emerging trend is online games; most are free to play. Favorites are GMax, Downhill Jam by Etnies, Street Sesh (also by Etnies), and Skateboard Jam from Miniclip.

    Clothing

You don't have to be a skateboarder to look like one. Popular clothing styles for skateboarders are hoodies, thick shoes, tight or baggy jeans, hats or "beanies", chain wallets and t shirts. You'll likely find stores in the mall that sell these types of clothes, but if you want to shop online, seek out these brands for the most popular selections: Vans, Etnies, Airwalks, Element, Zoo York, DC Shoes, Bilabong, Volcom.

Sometimes, paging through one of the many magazines can inspire your skater fashion. Checkout mags like Thrasher, Skateboarding Magazine, Transworld, and Skateboarder Magazine.

You don't have to be a professional skateboarder to appreciate the culture. You don't even have to be a skater at all! As long as you love the sport, you're a part of the culture.

Review Performing This Week: Live at Ronnie Scott's [Blu-ray]

Performing This Week: Live at Ronnie Scott's [Blu-ray] Best Review

I friend of mine was playing this on DVD in his music store, and I was impressed, to say the least, at the performance. I bought it here on Blu Ray, and after viewing it in 1080p, I was floored. On a 62" screen with surround, it was easy to immerse yourself in the performance, and wow! What a performance! Jeff's whole band is unbelievable, (especially the child-like waif of a bass player) and Jeff's skills are jaw dropping. The set of rockabilly tunes in the "extras" section on the Blu Ray are almost worth the price of admission on their own. Standout tracks to me are "Because We've Ended As Lovers" and "A Day In The Life". This disc is the first time I've heard Imogene Heap sing, and I must say, she is striking.

Quit reading and just buy the damned Blu Ray already!

superb experience - Mr. E. Daniel - townsville, Australia
    every once in a while comes along a concert dvd that shines above the rest;

jeff beck's "performing this week.. live at ronnie scott's" is one of them-hands down!.

there are absolutly no dud tracks, the synergy and performances of the musicans is jaw dropping throughout, the sense of fun comes acorss well and makes the experience both visually and audio wise pure pleassure.

vinnie is more fluent than seem humanely possible, tal is a mezmerizing entity and of course there is this wizard jeff. in addition guest appearances are tasteful and add to the variety and diversity of the show

for those who loves to get lost in their music- this is a must have product!!

Best from the Best - Philip Decatanzaro - Ottawa, ON
If you are expecting a large live concert with poor sound quality and lots of crowd action, you'll be disappointed. This DVD captures Jeff Beck showing his best, without the high volume that you would think that he would need to use the whammy bar skills that he has. Jeff shows off the best of his band while not stealing the complete show. I have been a fan since the 1968 Truth album. This DVD showed me that I should have followed him more closely, than just buying the odd album or CD since then.

This DVD is really worth having in your collection. The guest vocalists are terrific. Having Eric Clapton was great. The only other guitarist that could touch Jeff's skill is Satriani. The interviews with Jeff were great.

Amazing - Edwin Dukes - Oliver BC Canada
Absolutely amazing, I have watched the DVD 7 times. The musicians are all incredible. I would recommend this to any guitarist, drummer, keyboardist or bassist. cant get enough of it!

Top 10 Scariest Movies Ever - 10 Horror Films You Don't Want to Miss!

Earlier today my girlfriend and some friends decided to investigate on what were the top 10 scariest movies ever to watch on Halloween none stop. Well, what better place than the internet to do the research on horror films. We went to several forums, asked some experts, we even went to Ask500 and did a couple of polls. I have only seen 4 of these movies personally, and yes they will scare the living hell out of you. But we are saving the good stuff for Halloween, you should join us! Here are our conclusions:

    Top 10 Scariest Movies Ever

    1. The Vanishing (Spoorloos) - 1988

    2. Don't Look Now - 1973

    3. The Sixth Sense - 1999

    4. Halloween - 1978

    5. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 1974

    6. The Shining - 1980

    7. The Omen - 1976

    8. The Haunting - 1963

    9. Poltergeist - 1982

    10. The Exorcist - 1973

While personally, me and my friends have only seen 4 of these top 10 scariest movies ever (The Sixth Sense, The Vanishing, Poltergeist and The Exorcist), we can truly say that these movies are not to be played around with, you definitely have to be over 18 and even then you might be going to a therapist after October's end. Take into account that we have asked over 1,000 people for these results, don't take them lightly.

One word of warning though, you actually have to watch the films I mentioned from those years. There are tens of hundreds of horrible remakes (and not in the scary way) especially the Hollywood commercial remakes, those are really terrifying to watch. If you are serious about watching some good and spooky stuff, you need to watch the old versions.

Review Toy Story & Toy Story 2 (2 Pack)

Toy Story & Toy Story 2 (2 Pack) Best Review

Just like the Toy Story blu ray, this is a must own for any Toy Story fan. Better picture, sound, new features combined with the old features, new animations, and a new sneak peek at Toy Story 3! Not only does the TS1 blu ray come with a free ticket to TS3, so does this one!

On top of that it also comes with a DVD which has some of the features on it already. I know some people might think the DVD is a waste, but for me it's perfect. Since my computer can't play blu rays, the DVD is a nice backup so I can take some screen shots and use them as my wallpaper or post them online! So if you're a Toy Story fan, make sure to add this to your collection. You won't regret it!

Toy Story & Toy Story 2 (2 Pack) Overview

    Toy Story
There is greatness in film that can be discussed, dissected, and talked about late into the night. Then there is genius that is right in front of our faces--we smile at the spell it puts us into and are refreshed, and nary a word needs to be spoken. This kind of entertainment is what they used to call "movie magic," and there is loads of it in this irresistible computer animation feature. Just a picture of these bright toys on the cover of Toy Story looks intriguing, reawakening the kid in us. Filmmaker John Lasseter's shorts (namely Knickknack and Tin Toy, which can be found on the Pixar video Tiny Toy Stories) illustrate not only a technical brilliance but also a great sense of humor--one in which the pun is always intended. Lasseter thinks of himself as a storyteller first and an animator second, much like another film innovator, Walt Disney.

Lasseter's story is universal and magical: what do toys do when they're not played with? Cowboy Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), Andy's favorite bedroom toy, tries to calm the other toys (some original, some classic) during a wrenching time of year--the birthday party, when newer toys may replace them. Sure enough, Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is the new toy that takes over the throne. Buzz has a crucial flaw, though--he believes he's the real Buzz Lightyear, not a toy. Bright and cheerful, Toy Story is much more than a 90-minute commercial for the inevitable bonanza of Woody and Buzz toys. Lasseter further scores with perfect voice casting, including Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head and Wallace Shawn as a meek dinosaur. The director-animator won a special Oscar for "the development and inspired application of techniques that have made possible the first feature-length computer-animated film." In other words, the movie is great. --Doug Thomas

    Toy Story 2
John Lasseter and his gang of high-tech creators at Pixar create another entertainment for the ages. Like the few great movie sequels, Toy Story 2 comments on why the first one was so wonderful while finding a fresh angle worthy of a new film. The craze of toy collecting becomes the focus here, as we find out Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) is not only a beloved toy to Andy but also a rare doll from a popular '60s children's show. When a greedy collector takes Woody, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) launches a rescue mission with Andy's other toys. To say more would be a crime because this is one of the most creative and smile-inducing films since, well, the first Toy Story.

Although the toys look the same as in the 1994 feature, Pixar shows how much technology has advanced: the human characters look more human, backgrounds are superior, and two action sequences that book-end the film are dazzling. And it's a hoot for kids and adults. The film is packed with spoofs, easily accessible in-jokes, and inspired voice casting (with newcomer Joan Cusack especially a delight as Cowgirl Jessie). But as the Pixar canon of films illustrates, the filmmakers are storytellers first. Woody's heart-tugging predicament can easily be translated into the eternal debate of living a good life versus living forever. Toy Story 2 also achieved something in the U.S. two other outstanding 1999 animated features (The Iron Giant, Princess Mononoke) could not: it became a huge box-office hit. --Doug Thomas

Toy Story 2 on VHS - Terrance A. Rowland -
I brought the tape in good condition. The one bad thing is the day after I ordered it I found it at the local second hand store for 79 cents. Now I have 2 copies that I am proud to have since VHS tapes get destroyed so fast sometimes so I am keeping one as a back-up copy since it took me so long to locate one at a decent price. I recommend getting media from this site it was quick and fast from the time I ordered it to the time I got it within a week.

Once again, Disney does what it can to make a special edition, leave some out that was already there, and make more money off of you. You either have to buy the Pixar shorts DVD or hold onto the old Toy Story 2 DVD just so you have the short....which is a classic.

worth the upgrade to blu-ray! - Garf - Bay area, CA
wasn't quite sure how much of an upgrade the picture quality would be for blu-ray considering it was one of the "older" Pixar films. definitely a BIG jump in quality compared to the DVD. it's almost like watching a different movie altogether!

    Review Sordid Lives

    Sordid Lives Best Review

One of the funniest movies about what happens in a family when a loved one dies-and when sexual prefrences are considered curable. It was a summer pick for our Book club.Lots of laughs

    Sordid Lives Overview

Get ready for laughs the size of Texas when Olivia Newton-John, Beau Bridges, Bonnie Bedelia and Delta Burke lead an all-star cast in this twisted, white-trash tale "that puts the 'fun' in 'dysfunctional'" (Toronto Sun). The hilariously sordid details about a southern family surface with a vengeance when relatives converge for the funeral of "Grandma Peggy," who died after tripping over her lover's wooden legs! Toss in a couple of feuding, big-haired daughters, a jumpy aunt who just quit smoking, the scorned neighbor from hell, and crazy, cross-dressing "Brother Boy" - and you've got an outrageous "train wreck you can't help but watch!" (Chicago Tribune)

    Sordid Lives Specifications

If you've got a taste for big hair, broad Texas accents, and gay rights, this mixture of white-trash comedy and coming-out melodrama is for you. Sordid Lives starts out as chicken-fried farce, as a funeral is prepared for a woman who died when she tripped over her adulterous lover's wooden legs; about midway the emphasis shifts to a drag queen unfairly held in a mental institution and the dead woman's grandson, an actor in Los Angeles who hasn't come out to his mother. The tone shifts wildly, and the humor depends on your fondness for the white-trash genre--if you like it, this will tickle your ribs; if you don't, it'll fall flat as the panhandle landscape. But it must be said that the cast (including Bonnie Bedelia, Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, and Olivia Newton-John) dives right in, no matter how over-the-top their characters get. --Bret Fetzer

Laugh out Loud - Janet S. Holloway - Lexington, KY, US
I've watched this movie at least half a dozen times and still laugh at the same things. It's a wonderful, laugh-out-loud movie...wonderful acting and hysterically funny.

Sordid wives - Tomlin Coggeshall - Maine
Just a very funny movie that's got a little of everything in it. Gay men will especially enjoy it but so will everyone else, it whacky and fun.

sordid lives dvd - Bart Malone - AL
Love the movie, had to have it. Arrived quickly and was just as described by seller.

bad sound - Thomas J. Williams - Memphis, TN
The movie is great the sound on it sucks. The sound and the mouths do not go together. It is like watching a bad Chinese fighting movie.

    International Movies - Worth Exploring

International movies are a hidden gold mine for any film enthusiast. First and foremost, this isn't an anti-Hollywood article, because even Hollywood will churn out a solid blockbuster every now and then. But for anyone who loves films and appreciates a good story (and I'm guessing that's most of you), there are a bunch of great movies made in different countries that are every bit as fun as anything produced in a big-name studio.

Yeah, I know- You once tried to be open-minded, and let your date drag you to an art house theater where you sat through some slow, boring, and depressing foreign (non-US) movie that was talked up by some film snob who was trying to sound smart. And after you left the theater, you spent a good part of the evening trying to figure out what the hell you just watched. Before long, you ran, not walked, to your Collector's Edition of Die Hard movies with a burning need watch something that makes sense.

And all the while you resolved never to take advice from another snooty film critic ever again.

I've been there. After making it through film school and grad school, I've sat through many "weird" foreign films and received many bad stares (and grades) for not seeing those movies as "profound" or "deep" like my brilliant peers who smelled like weed. Admittedly however, film school did teach me one important lesson...that there's a whole world of movies out there beyond Hollywood. Taking that reasoning one step further, I knew that out of all those foreign movies, there had to be at least some that would appeal even to me (a guy who spent too many hours watching Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Adam Sandler flicks).

    And I was right.

With venues like Netflix, Blockbuster Online, and other vendors, exploring world cinema is as easy as pointing and clicking. Granted, some of those movies will definitely be the "weird" types that you won't understand, but many will be just as fun as the last good movie you watched at the cineplex. After sitting through and reviewing a good number of international movies, here are just a few important observations that I've made which apply to almost all foreign films, regardless of country of origin or genre:

Acting is generally very good: Almost all foreign film actors I've watched have been very believable in their roles. Even with the movies that I ended up not liking, I noticed they at least had strong performances.

Plotlines are generally more daring: With the exception of independent cinema, most commercial movies here in the US follow, more or less, a predictable pattern and sequence of events. Hollywood often structures the messages and themes of its films through data gleaned from focus groups, polls, or market research. Many foreign studios, on the other hand, are more likely to take a risk and give directors creative latitude in telling their stories. Also, bear in mind that most other countries are a lot older than the US. Therefore filmmakers and other artists from other nations have a lot more history and culture from which to draw upon, which can be an advantage when coming up with new ideas.

Universal themes: With our brains constantly being beaten by the cudgel of Political Correctness in our schools, colleges, and workplaces, there goes a notion that the key to some societal utopia dreamed up by the PC thought police lies with multiculturalism and diversity, diversity, diversity.

However, international movies that you'll love contain themes that make you forget how different we are and realize just how much we all have in common. They connect with us, even though they're in a different language and take place in a country you may not have visited. So take a chance and pick out a foreign film or two. Whether you're into drama, action, comedy, or horror, there's definitely a foreign film out there with your name on it!
