There are always many DVD new releases hitting the shelves. Each week new movies on DVD come out, as do various television shows, documentaries, fitness videos, specials and more. Because of this it can actually be hard to keep track of what's available and what you may be interested in. Take a look at this overview of the best new DVD movies that are available.

One of the hottest new movies on DVD is 500 Days of Summer. This is a fun and unique twist on the classic love story. As the film says in the beginning, it's actually not a love story after all. Instead, it follows both the ups and the downs of one relationship and the people who live it out. It also has plenty of laughs along the way.

The Hurt Locker is another one of the sensational DVD new releases, and it has been generating a lot of buzz as a potential Oscar candidate for Best Picture. It features a gritty look at the Iraq war and the young men that are charged to do the dirty work in it. Some love it and some hate it, but they all must cope with daily stress, violence and death.

Also amongst the popular new DVD movies is Zombieland. This is a fun zombie filled romp featuring Woody Harrelson. It's tongue in cheek and overly gory, but somehow this kitschy movie found the perfect combination of laughs and action to make for a very entertaining flick.

If you're looking for more horror and more science fiction without the comedy, then you may want to give a peek at Pandorum. It's one of the new movies on DVD that was overlooked in the theaters, but now is getting a lot of positive feedback. This one probably slipped past your radar when it was released, but it's definitely worth a watch now that it's one of the DVD new releases available for purchase.

Finally, don't forget about Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It's the movie adaptation of the classic kids book, and it's an entertaining watch for kids, young adults who used to love the book and parents alike.

Of course, these are only just a few of the DVD new releases that you can find available today. As mentioned, new movies on DVD get released each and every week, so you can't cover all of them quickly like this. However, these are the best and the most highly anticipated new DVD movies that are sure to be winners when you watch them.

Movies are just not as popular anymore

Author: Ryan Fyfe

Source: articlesbase.com

This may not be a broadly accustomed opinion, but it absolutely does assume that movies are not so accepted anymore. This is not to say that we don't still watch them because we are apparently watching added movies than anytime previously. Humans now illegally download all the latest movies and can watch as abounding of them as they like. All this best admitting has apparently not fabricated the cine added accepted but instead fabricated it added disposable. In the accomplished movies were things that humans absolutely accepted and they would watch them over and over again. These canicule abounding of us can watch a cine and will accept already abandoned what it was about by the time the credits roll. A lot of the botheration seems to be with the movies themselves. It is like the big producers of these films accept just run out of account and accumulate on rehashing the aforementioned old thing. They ability absorb a affluence on appropriate furnishings and gimmicks, but at the end of the day it is a lot of generally just a accommodate of accustomed stories. It is like the big filmmakers in Hollywood accept absent their mojo and accept annihilation absolutely larboard to say; a agnate affair seems to be accident abroad in the cine industry. There is still the casual design but the accepted trend seems to be downwards.Another big acumen for the abatement in the acceptance of movies is the actuality that they are now so simple to access for free. If you accept an internet affiliation and a computer you can watch movies day and night after anytime active out of options. The affluence by which humans can get their easily on the latest cine has cheapened their amount and with so abundant best it is just harder to impress. When you can illegally watch ten movies a day after paying for them it does yield abroad from the amount of the experience. Another acumen for the abatement in acceptance of the cine is that we are alpha to accomplish to added forms of entertainment. The approaching of our examination habits seems acceptable to accept a lot beneath to do with the big awning and television and added to do with our computer screen. The video podcast is something that anybody can aftermath and the accretion superior of these agency that some are acceptable as accepted as added acceptable forms of onscreen entertainment. It seems acceptable that this is area the approaching is traveling to be. There are abounding of us who will absence the heyday of movies but times change. The big names will abide to aftermath movies for a few years added and maybe they will get it appropriate now and again. The approaching is acceptable to be appealing austere for this blazon of ball though. Pirated movies assume actuality to break and the cine industry seems to accept run out of ideas. It is harder to brainstorm how the things could anytime go aback to the canicule of Star Wars and added blockbusters.

Episode Summary of the Hit Comedy TV Show, Frasier

Almost everyone in America has heard of the popular 90's comedy show, Frasier. Furthermore, many people will know that Frasier was a spinoff of the show Cheers. The plot synopsis of the show is that Frasier has since gotten married to his girlfriend from Cheers, had a kid, and then gotten a divorce, also he has moved across the country to Seattle. On the show, Frasier works as a radio show host and deals with a myriad of hilarious situations across the many seasons of the show and some of them even have to do with masonry construction or masonry construction Seattle. Other characters on the show include Frasier's dad Martin, a retired police officer who is nothing like Frasier. Also in the cast is Frasier's brother Niles, who is exactly like him including the fact that he failed at marriage.

On one episode of the show Frasier receives a gift from a person who he has helped on his radio show in the form of tickets to the Seattle Supersonics game. Niles shows up at his apartment believing that they are going to an opera instead, as they have originally decided to do, and Frasier decides to surprise his dad with the tickets to the game. As they sit at the game the two siblings are miserable while their father is enjoying it. Sitting next to Frasier is a very large and scary sounding woman who Frasier is terrified of.

In the next part of the show, Niles is chosen to take a half court shot at halftime to win some kind of prize package from the team. Niles, who is absolutely useless at sports, somehow manages to heave the ball towards and basket and make the shot. While stunned at first and humble about it, Niles learns after a while that making this half court shot gets him a lot of attention from people like his dad and his dad's friends and then decides to pretend that he actually knew what he was doing the entire time.

As the show goes on Frasier gets more and more upset as Niles laps up the attention from people who think he made the shot through skill rather than luck. This is enhanced by Niles wearing around some of his clothes that the Supersonics gave him as part of the prize package, things that he never would wear normally on the show. In the very last part of the show Frasier challenges Niles to a game of basketball on one of those machines where you shoot the ball into a small hoop a few feet away and they both look equally inept, embarrassing Martin at his favorite bar.

Frasier was one of the most popular shows and characters of the 1990's and was known for its witty writing and brilliant acting by the cast. This particular episode described in the previous paragraphs was in fact one of the most popular episodes ever and this and other episodes are still in syndication on a few different television stations across the country.

Connor Sullivan recently viewed the work of a Seattle masonry construction expert to choose one for some masonry work he needs completed. He made arrangements for a masonry construction Seattle expert to build a retaining wall in his backyard.

Historical Movies in Chronological Order

I use movies as a reference point when thinking about the past. Movies can be the best history teacher in the world, as long as use them as a general reference and not as a historical fact.

It's easy to pick out movies that have a historical significance and which ones don't. Films that are believed to be entirely fiction can still make an accurate or truthful portrayal of their time-frame.

If the movie gives a good approximation of what the life and culture was probably like during that era; then it is good for study.

Take the movie Braveheart for example: Braveheart is set in the year 1257 a.d., and takes place in Scotland. Filmed in 1995 and directed by Mel Gibson. Gibson plays the legendary Scot, William Wallace, who gained recognition when he rose to the forefront of the First War of Scottish Independence by going to war against Edward the 1st of England, (also known as Edward the Longshanks), and subsequently supported (and maybe romanced) by Edward's daughter-in-law Princess Isabelle, heir to the throne of England.

While all the events portrayed in the movie, might not be entirely accurate, the characters in the movie are actual historical figures. Little is known about why William Wallace really opposed King Edward I. The movie says that it was because of his Wife who was killed by English Lords. Recorded history doesn't give any details about his motivation for his opposition to England, so the writers of Braveheart, just made up a story to fill-in the gaps. It's unlikely that the Events in Braveheart ever really happened, and no one can know for sure, but I think it's likely that something similar has probably happened sometime in Scotland's history.

Maybe you'll look at historical movies different now. I now have an excellent grasp of historical time periods and such, and I swear it's because of movies more than any other influence.

Review An American Tail

An American Tail Best Review

Fievel is a young Russian mouse separated from his parents on the way to America, a land they think is without cats. When he arrives alone in the New World, he keeps up hope, searching for his family, making new friends, and running and dodging the cats he thought he'd be rid off. An American Tail easily one of the best animated features ever made, but it proves to be leaps beyond the efforts of recent Disney movies by refusing to be constricted to an all too familiar formula. A heartwarming story, beautiful songs, great performances and the animation is stellar. This is an excellent movie for all ages that will warm your heart

An American Tail Overview

VOICE TALENTS OF: DOM DELUISE, MADELINE KAHN, CATHIANNE BLORE...ETC.

An American Tail Specifications

Don Bluth's An American Tail is based on the story of a young Russian mouse who is separated from his family in America and who later heads with his reunited kin out to the American West. It's pleasant, though not spectacular, and has its greatest problems in story development. Steven Spielberg produced with an eye toward creating animation hits outside of Disney, and he and Bluth certainly took a big step in that direction here. Kids like it a lot, and adults will warm to the sound of various familiar voices, such as Dom DeLuise as Tiger and Madeline Kahn as Gussie Mausheimer. It's also the source of the pop single "Somewhere Out There." --Tom Keogh

Author: George Hutton

Source: articlecity.com

There are affluence of movies out there involving crime, criminals, bent masterminds, and complicated plots that aberration every which way afore they assuredly acknowledge who the bad guy is. This is an complete accept to see cine if you adore abomination dramas that accumulate you on the bend of your bench until the absolute last.

The cine starts out with badge rounding up some abeyant abomination suspects for a baby time, acutely inconsequential crime. These baby time crooks accommodated up for the aboriginal time in a captivation cell, while they are apprehension a badge lineup. One of these in the captivation corpuscle passes on a job action from his "boss" to cull of some acutely simple and baby time crime.

When they are appear afterwards affair afterwards the lineup, the get calm to attack to cull off this acutely innocent crime. As they dig added and added into the attributes of their business, they acquisition that there is a bent administrator abaft the accomplished thing. A administrator of abomination so apathetic and adamant that any who even glimpse who he is are anon and atrociously killed.

They are told some adventure or fable about what he did in the old country, if a battling bent paid him a visit. In a appearance of force, this battling abomination aristocrat threatened to assassinate his ancestors afore his eyes, in hopes of befitting him in line. This baleful analgesic angry out to be far too abundant to handle for the bounded abomination lord. He accomplished his own ancestors himself, afore killing all but one of those beatific to annihilate him. Naturally this abhorrent act accustomed his acceptability as the a lot of adamant bent ever.

As the associates of this baby accumulation get afterpiece to afterpiece to the absolute analyze of the angry mastermind, the badge get afterpiece and afterpiece to the accomplished setup. In a abominable chase adjoin time, the accumulation accept to balk abduction from the police, and accept to plan calm to abstain angering he who has assassin them for the job.

But both the group, and the badge are absolutely clueless as to the absolute analyze of the bent administrator abaft all this. Stargate SG-1 Season 7 (Thinpak) Best Review

Box DVD Set arrived very quickly! All discs in great shape - no problems playing any of them! This series is great - a wonderful mix of sci fi & comedy! You gotta love the dry sense of humor displayed by Richard Dean Anderson's Jack O'Neil character!

Stargate SG-1 Season 7 (Thinpak) Overview

No Description Available.
Genre: Television
Rating: NR
Release Date: 13-JUN-2006
Media Type: DVD

Stargate SG-1 Season 7 (Thinpak) Specifications

A gradual shift in overall style, character homecomings and departures, and evolving on- and off-screen roles for the major players are among the attractions of the seventh season of Stargate SG-1. Spread out over five discs, these 21 episodes are ample indication that changes notwithstanding--and admittedly, not all of them are for the better--the series remains arguably the best-made, most compelling sci-fi program on television.

Perhaps most noticeable is the reduced role of star Richard Dean Anderson, who opted to limit his number of trips to Vancouver, where Stargate SG-1 is filmed. But that's not a bad thing. The show's ability to poke fun at itself has always been a strong suit, and while Anderson still brings a welcome sense of humor to his portrayal of wiseacre and loose cannon Col. Jack O'Neill, his act is getting a little smug by now. What's more, the other principal cast members have taken up the slack, both behind and in front of the camera: Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson, who rejoins the cast in episode 1) wrote one episode and co-wrote another; Christopher Judge (Teal'c) wrote one as well; Amanda Tapping (Lt. Col. Samatha Carter) directed episode 19, "Resurrection"; and even Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn, who appears in just a few episodes) contributed one story.

The seventh season also finds the series somewhat more earthbound than in the past; indeed, there are episodes in which the Stargate (the "wormhole" our heroes use to travel to different worlds) doesn't appear at all. On balance, the stories are more personal, and more political--especially the final two, with the newly elected U.S. President (William Devane) struggling to decide the fate of the Stargate program (and, of course, the fate of the entire known universe as well!). And then there's the ultimate villain, Anubis, who makes perennial nemeses the Goa'uld (of which Anubis is one... sort of) look tame. He's a combination of Star Wars' Darth Vader and evil Emperor, but hey, at least these guys borrow from the best.

Stargate SG-1's production values remain first-rate. The bonus DVD features are also much better than they once were, with audio commentary (mainly by directors and writers) for every episode, as well as director profiles and "Beyond the Gate" featurettes focusing on individual characters. --Sam Graham

Review The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset DVD

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset DVD Best Review

The only problem with this collection is that its viewers grow to love and admire characters who are doomed to hellfire, if such punishment exists for those who cause suffering to others. And these gangsters create abominable suffering on a large scale. Too often we are shown the personal lives and feelings and families of the men who commit atrocities, and we recognize qualities which are sympathetic, even sadmirable. Make no mistake, however. The aforementioned being the case this collection contains, perhaps, the greates movie ever made(I), another movie of incredible magnitude(II), and a third which is very good. Already a classic, the collection will be viewed like people read Shakespeare - seemingly forever.

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset DVD Overview

THE GODFATHER: Popularly viewed as one of the best American films ever made, the multi-generational crime saga The Godfather (1972) is a touchstone of cinema: one of the most widely imitated, quoted, and lampooned movies of all time. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino star as Vito Corleone and his youngest son, Michael, respectively. It is the late 1940s in New York and Corleone is, in the parlance of organized crime, a "godfather" or "don," the head of a Mafia family. Michael, a free thinker who defied his father by enlisting in the Marines to fight in World War II, has returned a captain and a war hero. Having long ago rejected the family business, Michael shows up at the wedding of his sister, Connie (Talia Shire), with his non-Italian girlfriend, Kay (Diane Keaton), who learns for the first time about the family "business." A few months later at Christmas time, the don barely survives being shot by gunmen in the employ of a drug-trafficking rival whose request for aid from the Corleones' political connections was rejected. After saving his father from a second assassination attempt, Michael persuades his hotheaded eldest brother, Sonny (James Caan), and family advisors Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) and Sal Tessio (Abe Vigoda) that he should be the one to exact revenge on the men responsible. After murdering a corrupt police captain and the drug trafficker, Michael hides out in Sicily while a gang war erupts at home. Falling in love with a local girl, Michael marries her, but she is later slain by Corleone enemies in an attempt on Michael's life. Sonny is also butchered, having been betrayed by Connie's husband. As Michael returns home and convinces Kay to marry him, his father recovers and makes peace with his rivals, realizing that another powerful don was pulling the strings behind the narcotics endeavor that began the gang warfare. Once Michael has been groomed as the new don, he leads the family to a new era of prosperity, then launches a campaign of murderous revenge against those who once tried to wipe out the Corleones, consolidating his family's power and completing his own moral downfall. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards and winning for Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando), and Best Adapted Screenplay, The Godfather was followed by a pair of sequels.

THE GODFATHER PART II: This brilliant companion piece to the original The Godfather continues the saga of two generations of successive power within the Corleone family. Coppola tells two stories in Part II: the roots and rise of a young Don Vito, played with uncanny ability by Robert De Niro, and the ascension of Michael (Al Pacino) as the new Don. Reassembling many of the talents who helped make The Godfather, Coppola has produced a movie of staggering magnitude and vision, and undeniably the best sequel ever made. Robert De Niro won an Oscar®; the film received six Academy Awards, including Best Picture of 1974.

THE GODFATHER PART III: One of the greatest sagas in movie history continues! In this third film in the epic Corleone trilogy, Al Pacino reprises the role of powerful family leader Michael Corleone. Now in his 60's, Michael is dominated by two passions: freeing his family from crime and finding a suitable successor. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)... but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. Francis Ford Coppola directs Pacino, Garcia, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Eli Wallach, Sofia Coppola, Joe Montegna and others in this exciting, long-awaited film that masterfully explores the themes of power, tradition, revenge and love. Seven Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture.

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset DVD Specifications

Throughout his long, wandering, often distinguished career Francis Ford Coppola has made many films that are good and fine, many more that are flawed but undeniably interesting, and a handful of duds that are worth viewing if only because his personality is so flagrantly absent. Yet he is and always shall be known as the man who directed the Godfather films, a series that has dominated and defined their creator in a way perhaps no other director can understand. Coppola has never been able to leave them alone, whether returning after 15 years to make a trilogy of the diptych, or re-editing the first two films into chronological order for a separate video release as The Godfather Saga. The films are our very own Shakespearean cycle: they tell a tale of a vicious mobster and his extended personal and professional families (once the stuff of righteous moral comeuppance), and they dared to present themselves with an epic sweep and an unapologetically tragic tone. Murder, it turned out, was a serious business. The first film remains a towering achievement, brilliantly cast and conceived. The entry of Michael Corleone into the family business, the transition of power from his father, the ruthless dispatch of his enemies--all this is told with an assurance that is breathtaking to behold. And it turned out to be merely prologue; two years later The Godfather, Part II balanced Michael's ever-greater acquisition of power and influence during the fall of Cuba with the story of his father's own youthful rise from immigrant slums. The stakes were higher, the story's construction more elaborate, and the isolated despair at the end wholly earned. (Has there ever been a cinematic performance greater than Al Pacino's Michael, so smart and ambitious, marching through the years into what he knows is his own doom with eyes open and hungry?) The Godfather, Part III was mostly written off as an attempted cash-in, but it is a wholly worthy conclusion, less slow than autumnally patient and almost merciless in the way it brings Michael's past sins crashing down around him even as he tries to redeem himself. --Bruce Reid

On the DVD
People used to say this was Frank Sinatra's world, and the rest of us just lived in it. After watching the multiple special features in the box set The Godfather: Coppola Restoration, one might conclude it's actually time for a cultural and historical revision: This is the Corleone family's world. The rest of us better tread lightly. Actually, the point of the half-dozen or so features crammed onto a disc accompanying the beautifully restored The Godfather, The Godfather II and The Godfather III, is that The Godfather movies have penetrated popular culture in such a deep and meaningful way that they are second-nature to everything. David Chase, creator of and writer on The Sopranos, for example, describes in the featurette "Godfather World" that his hit HBO series was intended to be the story of the first generation of mobsters actually influenced by Francis Ford Coppola's hit trilogy. Joe Mantegna calls the three films "the Italian Star Wars." (Mantegna co-stars in The Godfather III.) Alec Baldwin says no matter what one is doing, one is compelled to stop and watch the films if they're on television. Richard Belzer calls the films "a religion."

And so on. A number of people similarly testify in "Godfather World" to the importance and ubiquitousness of The Godfather and its sequels in American life. There's no point in arguing, so its best to move on to the other featurettes, including "The Masterpiece That Almost Wasn't," reviewing in detail much of what has been said about Paramount's mistreatment of Coppola, about casting fights (Steve McQueen as Michael?), about the studio's assumption they were getting a quick-and-dirty B-movie, and about producer Robert Evans' determination to keep his choice of director and unlikely actors under his wing. Fresh information within the special features, however, begins with "… When the Shooting Stopped," a fine study of post-production on The Godfather, with several surprising and fascinating facts. Among emerging details is an explanation of why Michael Corleone's scream toward the end of The Godfather III is silenced out. (Hint: it was meant to be the inverse of a sound effect in the first movie.) "Emulsional Rescue: Revealing The Godfather" talks about the painstaking work of restoring the first two films, beginning with a phone call from Coppola to Steven Spielberg (after the latter's DreamWorks studio became part of the Viacom family) asking if he'd request money from Paramount for restoration work. "The Godfather On the Red Carpet is a negligible series of fawning statements about the movie from hot young actors, while "Four Short Films" are brief and enjoyable takes on different aspects of The Godfather's impact on modern living. --Tom Keogh

The Masterpice - Alexis Munoz - Panama
I have one word to describe this movie "masterpiece". If you are a mafia movie collector this is the movie

The very best trilogy... - katshan - Nashville, IN USA
I can hardly add to all of the positive comments made about this brilliant, classic Godfather trilogy. It can be viewed over and over and still has something to offer each time. The added features are equally interesting and entertaining. This is a must buy addition to your movie library. The other great thing about it is that the viewer is transported throughout time from the beginning of the family into the 1970's or 80's. This has to be one of the best all time movie trilogies ever produced. It gets a very big 5 stars from me.

a master piece - Rodolfo Samayoa - Guatemala
it doesn`t matter how many times i wath it, it`s always enjoyable, superb movies, still waiting the godfather part IV

Top Family Friendly Movies of 2009

Here are the all around BEST family friendly movies of 2009. These are movies that you can't go wrong with for both kids and adults together. These are great movies you can enjoy over and over again with your kids. If you missed one, be sure to keep an eye out for when it is released on DVD and snatch it up quick. Each one of these family friendly movies for 2009 will be worthy additions to your family movie collection.

The Princess and the Frog

The folks at Disney have come up with another classic here with their first and long over due animated story featuring an African American heroine. You will feel like you are watching a story line similar to Little Mermaid at times, but the characters are believable and ones you will cheer for. The best audience for this movie is girls at middle school age and younger.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

A bit corny at times, okay a lot corny, but kids loved this movie. It is based on the children's book by the same name and succeeds at all levels. This animated screen version is funny and moves at a fast pace. It is based on the unlikely event of food coming down as rain. The visual effects are great as well.

Hannah Montana: The Movie

What child doesn't know about the hit Disney TV show Hannah Montana? Well in this full length feature film all the characters are brought to the big screen. It is a heart warming story of a young girl (played by Miley Cyrus) coming of age and searching for herself. With lots of horses, and a country setting this musical family comedy is filled with family values and is enjoyable for kids of all ages and their parents.

G-Force

This is a creative 3-D animated comedy adventure brought to us by Disney. It is about a group of specially trained guinea pigs that are used by the government for top secret espionage. The characters are fluffy and engaging as they go about using all their latest spy gear and gadgets. The movie is clever, fun for all ages and finishes with a great message.

Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs

This is actually the third installment of the Ice Age movies with a new, fun and lovable character being introduced. If your kids saw the earlier Ice Age Movies this will be enjoyed as well. The animation is great and who doesn't love a movie with dinosaurs.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Kids sure seem to love it when museum characters come to life after the doors are closed. In this sequel we are taken to the Washington DC Smithsonian museum where once again the museum exhibits come to life. Silly, witty and with charming characters, this movie is highly fun for kids of all ages.

Up

This very successful animated adventure film is my favorite for the whole year. It teams up Disney and Pixar and quite possibly will become Pixar's best film to date. The characters are entertaining, the story is well written, and the animation and graphics are superb. It is filled with funny lines that have both kids and adults enjoying and laughing together. Even though it is just an animated film, it will have you re-evaluating your life at the end.

Review The Visitor

The Visitor Best Review

This quiet, meditative no-gimmick film is one of the best of 2007.

Professor of Economics Walter Vale (Jenkins in the role of a lifetime) is a lonely, prickly-pear professor who is forced to travel from his Conneticut home to New York city to deliver a colleague's paper. Upon arriving at his NYC apartment, he encounters two foreigners (the equally sexy Haaz Sleiman as the young Syrian man Tariq, and the lovely Danai Gurira as his Senegalese girlfriend Zainab). After a slight altercation, Prof. Vale finds that the two immigrants 'wuz robbed', being rented the professor's apartment by a con man.

Not wishing to turn them into the street, the professor allows them to stay. What follows is such a rich, beautiful human interest film that I will not spoil it--I can only say, buy it and love it. Richard Jenkins, an Illinois native who rather shows it a bit too much in this film, is really quite fine for his 1st starring/leading man role.

Up to the task is is other unknown costar, the wonderful Hiam Abbass as Tariq's beleaguered mother. This film is a powerful political statement, one that encompasses immigration law, idiot 9-11 paranoia, and the heartbreak of losing loved ones all over again, which Prof. Vale experiences here.

It struck me that this film might have been flashier...but why? It didn't need to be, and so many scenes that might have been ruined by over-the-top showboating were performed with tear-inducing élan. There were even a few low-key laughs, deftly placed and quite the right balance of spices to the story.

In the end, this movie is going to stand as an example of the best of this decade; again, I cannot say enough about Richard Jenkins' great performance here, his calm, cool and slightly embittered character literally changing overnight. Not just any actor could do that.

Jenkins, lately of "Burn After Reading" fame, is one of those 'major' character actors whose face you will no doubt recall even if his name rings no bells at all. He's one of the best in the business; my only problem with casting Jenkins in such a low-key film is that he is easily confused with a couple of other character actors. Of course, I cannot NAME a single one of them!

Anyway, get this and study closely. You will learn several things from this film, I guarantee.

The Visitor Overview

Hailed as "one of the year's most intriguing dramas" (Claudia Puig, USA TODAY), The Visitor stars Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) in a perfect performance (Lisa Schwarzbaum, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY) as Walter, a disaffected college professor who has been drifting aimlessly through his life. When, in a chance encounter on a trip into New York, Walter discovers a couple has taken up residence in his apartment in the city, he develops an unexpected and profound connection to them that will change his life forever. As challenges arise for his tenants, Walter finds himself compelled to help his new friends, and rediscovers a passion he thought he had lost long ago. The year's first genuine must-see film" (Ann Hornaday, THE WASHINGTON POST) about rediscovering life's rhythms in the most unexpected places

The Visitor Specifications

A deeply moving drama built around longtime character actor Richard Jenkins, The Visitor is a simmering drama about a college professor and recent widower, Walter Vale (Jenkins), who discovers a pair of homeless, illegal aliens living in his New York apartment. After the mix-up is resolved, Vale invites the couple--a young, Syrian musician named Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and his Senegalese girlfriend (Danai Gurira--to stay with him. An unlikely friendship develops between the retiring, quiet Vale and the vital Tarek, and the former begins to loosen up and respond to Tarek’s drumming lessons as if something in him waiting to be liberated has finally arrived. All goes well until Tarek is hauled in by immigration authorities and threatened with deportation. His mother, Mouna (Hiam Abbass), turns up and stays with Vale, sparking a renewed if subdued interest in courtship. But the wheels of injustice in immigration crush all manner of hopes in post-9/11 America. Vale soon realizes his unexpected capacity for anger over Tarek’s plight, and the positive changes to his personal life that emerged from a deep involvement with his friend and Mouna, might be the only legacy he takes from this experience. Writer-director Thomas McCarthy has created a wonderfully measured story about change and renewal, and put it all on the shoulders of Jenkins, a largely unheralded but masterful performer whose time for renown has surely come. --Tom Keogh

Movie - J. Wilmoth - OKC, OK
I haven't had a chance to watch the movie so don't have a review at this time.

A Sketch Rather Than A Script - Jeff Farrow -
Supposedly THE VISITOR represents a new genre of American film, a less bombastic, technically leaned down movie. If that means employing a very sketchy script, than it certainly applies here.

You've got traumatic events happening bang, bang, bang--but not only does it seem unreal, nobody reacts to them--or when they do react it seems to be either a question of too little, too late; reactions contrary to the character of the person involved, or just downright unbelievable. The situations the characters find themselves in seem equally contrived. In such a format you'd better have strong characterization, or you're in trouble. THE VISITOR is in trouble from the onset and drags on to a less than satisfying--and contrived conclusion.

"Understated," is one thing, but tiring or lacking substance is another.

I liked the potential of the story, liked the actors (REALLY liked Hiam Abbass who played the mother) and enjoyed certain fragments of story line, like when the mother asks the professor about the academic book he is writing and he snaps back to the effect that only other writers would understand his creative process--but here again, he immediately corrects himself. He corrects himself too quickly, I felt. It was his uppity touchiness that I found believable. I know "educated artists" like that. More could have been done with this flash of realism, but it is quickly brushed aside.

I write I like Hiam Abbass because, quite frankly, I found her very attractive physically. She's middle-aged and still very lovely, and must have really been a knockout 20 years ago. I suppose this is sexist, but I'm going for the most positive here.

Unfortunately, I just don't believe most of the movie, it may have been more effective had it been made for television. Nonetheless, it's worth watching if for the little peek behind the facade of Homeland Security.

Hallmark type sentimentality - Vidhu - USA
The movie started off promising but disappointed me completely. It just reinforces stereotypes instead of dispelling them.

I understand it is quite possible for one to take an irrational interest in other people's lives but if I know anything about human relationships this doesn't happen unless both parties are at least cordial with each other. In this case, the black lady (I must say, a drop dead gorgeous black lady because uhm it is a weak movie that just needs an audience on any ground possible) was unnecessarily rude to the professor till the middle of the movie. The (again very good looking) Syrian guy is nice enough but his mum needs a punch on her face for expecting a complete stranger to a) take her to Queens b) take her to a Broadway show c) just treat her like a princess

The characterization was weak. They seemed to be angry for no reason all the time. And worried for no reason. Sure, deportation is cause for worry but their anger and fear were just misplaced. And such Hallmark-type of drama. A university professor misses his flight to take an Arab lady to a detention centre just because she wants to see the area that her son is in (Mind you, her son is not dying.. worst case he us just going to go back to his country). The oh-so pleasant and easy bonding between the black girlfriend and Arab lady just minutes after the Arab lady is surprised to see that her son's girlfriend is "so black". The unnecessary tears. The ridiculous sentimental BS. Argh! I almost hit my head against the wall.

There are far worse horrors in this world than living illegally in America. I understand immigration is a big issue but the movie doesn't highlight the real problems faced by immigrants at all. I had no sympathy for those shown in the movie, so if that was the intention of the director, sorry pal.. did not work.

Review Braveheart (Sapphire Series) [Blu-ray]

Braveheart (Sapphire Series) [Blu-ray] Best Review

Most of us are aware that Braveheart won the coveted Best Picture Oscar in 1995. I'm not going to review the film itself. What you need to know is that the blu ray version of Braveheart is first rate and breathtaking from start to finish. Stunning detail and sharpness throughout. This is the best looking transfer from this era that I've yet seen on blu ray. Paramount reserves its blu ray "Sapphire Series" treatment for select few films (Braveheart, Gladiator, Forest Gump, and most recently Saving Private Ryan). Superb sound quality. Generous interesting special features. This is a must own for high def fans.

Braveheart (Sapphire Series) [Blu-ray] Specifications

Mel Gibson's Oscar-winning 1995 Braveheart is an impassioned epic about William Wallace, the 13th-century Scottish leader of a popular revolt against England's tyrannical Edward I (Patrick McGoohan). Gibson cannily plays Wallace as a man trying to stay out of history's way until events force his hand, an attribute that instantly resonates with several of the actor's best-known roles, especially Mad Max. The subsequent camaraderie and courage Wallace shares in the field with fellow warriors is pure enough and inspiring enough to bring envy to a viewer, and even as things go wrong for Wallace in the second half, the film does not easily cave in to a somber tone. One of the most impressive elements is the originality with which Gibson films battle scenes, featuring hundreds of extras wielding medieval weapons. After Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky, Orson Welles's Chimes at Midnight, and even Kenneth Branagh's Henry V, you might think there is little new that could be done in creating scenes of ancient combat; yet Gibson does it. --Tom Keogh

10 Best Looking Women in Sports Movies

I thought about writing about the least attractive women in sports women but I got as far as Barbara Hershey from Hoosiers, and I thought about the scene when she kisses Gene Hackman, remembered how it was like watching my grandparents make-out, I gagged and then decided to go in a totally different direction. So I will now present to you the 10 hottest women from sports movies.

10. Susan Sarandon - Bull Durham

Overall I'm not a Susan Sarandon fan. She's pretty ordinary looking - at least compared to the other women on this list. But she was definitely hot in Bull Durham.

9. Elisabeth Shue - The Karate Kid

I saw this movie when I was about 10. I instantly fell in love with Ali (Elisabeth Shue). Then I saw her in Leaving Las Vegas about 10 years later and I was in awe. But I do still wonder what the hell she saw in the dorky Daniel (player by the 55 year old Ralph Macchio).

8. Christine Taylor - Dodgeball

Does Dodgeball deserve to be on this list? Oh well, Christie Taylor is such a cutie she deserves to be here.

7. Halle Berry - The Program

I gotta say that The Program may be the most overlooked sports movie. It has great action and a decent plot and two hot women. A young Halle Berry was one of them.

6. Keirra Knightley - Bend it Like Beckham

There's just something about Keirra Knightley that is captivating and distracting. I'm not sure exactly what happened in this movie (something with soccer and a strict, religious family) but Knightley was in it.

5. Kristy Swanson - The Program

And here is the second woman from The Program. Even if you don't like football, Swanson makes this a must-see movie.

4. Nicole Kidman - Days of Thunder

This is the first movie I ever saw with Kidman. She had long, red hair and she was hot. She's still hot, but she's never looked quite as good in any other movie as she did in this one.

3. Charlize Theron - The Legend of Baggar Vance

I'm not sure how this wasn't a better movie with Theron, Matt Damon, and Will Smith starring, but Theron looked great and that was enough to make it worth my while.

2. Kelly Preston - Jerry MaGuire

Ahh, the ex-lover of Jerry (played by Tom Cruise). She got to do what many of us wish we could now do - punch Cruise in the face. And am I the only one that was wondering why Jerry was wasting his time with Zellweger's character instead of begging Preston's character to come back to him? It was annoying.

1. Jessica Biel - Summer Catch

I didn't really buy Freddie Prinze Jr. playing a pitcher but I did buy Biel in a bikini. Wow, she "fit" the role very well.

Review C.S.I. New York - The Complete Third Season

C.S.I. New York - The Complete Third Season Best Review

Briefly, the actors are still doing a great job with the program. Personally, while watching most of this season, I find that I'm going back to the first season when Danny had been in trouble with Tanglewood and the Minhaus shooting. With both Don Flack and Sheldon Hawks getting put into the hot seat, you could see the resentment they were feeling when Mac didn't seem like he was supporting them. I said "now you know what Danny felt". A sad thing about this season was the introduction of a new person with no background history other than she came back from teaching and was getting into Mac's life. I felt she pushed too hard and got what she deserved.
So far the whole season was as enjoyable as the first with a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Now if the writers don't ruin another good show with bad writing, then it might make it as long as the other two parent shows.

C.S.I. New York - The Complete Third Season Overview

CSI: NY, the third incarnation of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation franchise and the spin-off of CSI: Miami, is a crime drama about forensic investigators who use high-tech science to follow the evidence and solve crimes in The Big Apple.

C.S.I. New York - The Complete Third Season Specifications

The third season of CSI: New York is full of murder, mayhem, and mystery. And luckily for lead investigator Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise), it also includes a little romance in the form of the lovely Dr. Peyton Driscoll (Claire Forlani), a medical examiner who joins the staff. All 24 episodes from the third season, which aired on CBS during 2006-2007, are included on this six-disc box set. And moreso than the previous two years, this season has a taut, cohesive feel. The characters have bonded and come into their own, especially Detective Don Flack (played by Eddie Cahill, who made his name playing the boytoy of both Jennifer Aniston on Friends and Sarah Jessica Parker on Sex and the City). Mac's team also includes Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), Dr. Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper), and the aptly named Dr. Sid Hammerback (Robert Joy). When Sid, the medical examiner, goes off one of his lengthy tangents, Sheldon quietly points out, "You're going to that creepy place again." Fans will be a little frustrated at the flirtation between detectives Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap) and Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo), which falters before it really gets to start.

This season includes guest appearances from tennis player John McEnroe, singer Nelly Furtado, magician Criss Angel, former heartthrob Joey Lawrence, and a real-life Goth burlesque group that goes by the name Suicide Girls. The latter make for interesting visuals, but they slow down the scenes with their stilted acting. While it's understandable that CSI:NY wants to stand out from other dramas--including those in the CSI franchise, it's odd that the producers would give such a big chunk of air time to a group of women who aren't completely convincing in roles playing themselves. On the other hand, Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) is perfectly cast in the role of a college student who's not quite right after his brother is executed for a crime he insists wasn't his fault. The boxed set includes audio commentary on four episodes, as well as behind-the-scenes featurettes. If you've got the stomach for it, take a tour of the "body farm" (where the decomposition of bodies are studied) with Hill Harper. --Jae-Ha Kim

This series was okay. From what I've seen on TV, there are better. Buy it on sale if want to complete the collection.

CSI-a-go-go - ceara_red - KINGWOOD, TX, US
I've been keeping up with the DVDs for CSI and CSI: Miami pretty much since they were first being released. But for some reason, I never was into CSI: NY. Possibly because the other series are set in warm climates and tend not to make me jealous, possibly becuase there are enough interesting characters (read: science guys and cool murders solved) to keep a girl busy for plenty of time. Whatever the reason, NY just wasn't for me.

Now things have changed. I'm still jealous of the snow on the ground, whether it's real or fake. However, there are new science guys to be discovered and that brain scanner in Dr. Hammerback's autopsy suite and the virtual autopsy room are the ultimate in technological gadgetry. See y'all in season 10!

TV Series review - Howard Stugard -
The series was enteraning and had some good story lines but it never was great like the orginal series. The characters are not as interesting and likable like the orginal series.

Great season - James D. Crabtree - Fayetteville, North Carolina
I like the program but this season set unfortunately started getting a little preachy and VERY soap-opera-ish. AIDS awareness, political wrangling, and some of the vaguaries of the legal system all contributed to a slightly less than perfect product. Nevertheless, some great writing made this an excellent TV experience, certainly better than 98% of the stuff being broadcast today.

Movie Review - Basic (2003)

Author: Steven Veach

Source: ezinearticles.com

I'm somewhat of a John Travolta fan back his re-invention on blur in the afterwards allotment of the 1990's. He started to get a little tacky, but with Basic, co-staring with Samuel L. Jackson, Travolta delivers a abundant performance.

Set on a aggressive abject in Panama, Travolta is alleged in to catechize soldiers that accept appear in from a training exercise area their adviser was killed. Through assorted stories, the added co-star, Connie Nielson (who, I think, is not a actual acceptable actress), abstracts out there is something ambiguous with everyone's story.

The cine provides a few twists that you affectionate of expected, but it was all-embracing a acceptable flick that is account watching. It would be a acceptable cine loaded on your laptop for a flight, or if you're ashore cat-and-mouse at an airport terminal for three hours.

The action arena amid Travolta and Nielson was rather stupid, in my opinion, but the adventure started traveling appropriate afterwards that, so it adored the cine from the debris heap. In the additional bisected of the movie, Travolta and Nielson break the lies getting told and get to the truth, award out there is a lot added traveling on in Panama than just siesta. In the end, they bag the bad guy and again things get awe-inspiring for Nielson, who al of a sudden finds herself in a accomplished altered world.

In the end, the artifice has a nice aberration to it, apparently a little unrealistic, admitting absorbing none the less. I would accord this cine my Two Star Steve Thumbs Up, just because its so abundant bigger than The Edge of Darkness.

Steven Veach has several books in print and has a new thriller novel coming out in April 2010 called, The Preparation. He also has another book scheduled to come out in August 2010 called, In The Meadow. You can find out more about Steven at http://www.stevenveach.net and you can order his books by clicking here.

Review The Wolf Man - The Legacy Collection (The Wolf Man / Werewolf of London / Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man / She-Wolf of London)

The Wolf Man - The Legacy Collection (The Wolf Man / Werewolf of London / Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man / She-Wolf of London) Best Review

I saw one of the "Wolf Man" pictures with Lon Chaney when I was in one of the primary grades in elementary school. I was in the front row as they put the youngest and lowest grades in front as the children in the higher grades could see over our heads. It was on a Friday afternoon, and I, being just a child, had the hell scared out of me (the large bed sheet used as a screen was no more than 10 feet in front of me) when Larry Talbot changed into the Wolf Man in a jail cell, snarling and rattling the bars as the camera panned in for a closeup. To mention just how effective the special effects were at the time, that scene created a fear that lasted for a very long time. I was especially fearful at night when alone and for years afterward dreaded going into my dark bedroom. No matter how I tried to describe my fears to my parents, they could not understand and never allowed me have even the tiniest light to allay my anxieties. (They were not cruel . . . things were simply different in those days.)

Looking back, I think that those original "Wolf Man" movies were the state of the art in their day and there are few things new today that can compare with those ground-breakers.

This is the first time I came across the movie ("Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man") where I thought the scene was. It was not. Next I watched the first in the series, "The Wolf Man," and it was not in that movie either.

This is the first time I have seen any of the "Wolf Man" series since I saw that movie almost 70 years ago, and I can still picture that transformation from man into beast, with the creature wildly raging against the confines of the bars in the cell.

Is there anyone out there that recalls this scene and in which movie it occurs? Perhaps I am recalling the correct movie but the scene was not included in the re-release.

Thanks,

I just so the new Wolf Man movie and couldn't believe how they took Lon Chaney Jr great performance and story and killed it with a silver bullet. See the classic movie and with a bowl of popcorn and drink and go back to the time of great movies. Enjoyed The Wolfman the legacy collection and enjoyed going back to the glory days of Monsters.

Just Okay - Willy D. Reviewer - San Francisco,CA
With each sequel, the plot becomes weaker, the acting terrible, and production values drop.

Buy it used (not over ) and you shouldn't be too disappointed on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

(A few Irish coffees really help.)
